After doing a major upgrade on one of my home systems, I switched to Firefox 3.
Yeah, better late than ever...
As I opened FriendFeed main page, I stumbled on a weird loing issue.
I could access the login page and write my login data. But hitting the "Sign in" button kept redirecting me to the standard main page.
I had to clear cookies, to get the login page back.
At this point I knew it was something related to cookies, but I still had to track it down.
It's linux, so I didn't need "a fresh firefox installation". I just logged into the guest user I set up on my system for friends, and deleted the whole /home/guest_dir/.mozilla directory.
Logging into FriendFeed worked like a charm.
Back on my user, I deleted the ~/.mozilla/firefox/my_data_dir/cookies.sqlite but this didn't solve the problem.
So, I tried to disable extensions one-by-one. Disabling the Noscript add-on did the trick. Well, this led to the solution...
Searching for FriendFeed AND Noscript, I got this share on FF and followed it to the original post.
I searched the Noscript website, and found the solution in their FAQs:
Q: Since I've got Automatic Secure Cookie Management enabled I cannot login on some sites. What's happening?
A: Some web sites depend on very complicated domain interrelations and, while they handle sign on on a certain domain through a secure HTTPS channel, they need to propagate authentication across multiple domains which do not support HTTPS. [...]
From this point, I just had to follow their FAQs step-by-step, add friendfeed.com to the "Ignore unsafe cookies" list, and it worked perfectly.
Uh, what did you say? RTFM? You got a point ;)
