(I prefer to whisper that... we all know that Murphy hears very good :) Now... back to the subject of my email: I study Medicine at Catania University, and do some volunteer work in Intensive Care Unit and on ambulances of Italian Red Cross in Emergency Service. As you can imagine, we all doing this work know very well Muprhy's laws... After a really bad call I had some weeks ago, I thought to write down some laws and mail them to you. I think you can put them among the 'EMS laws'. Here they are :) -I- Law of Itensive Care Unit and ALS Ambulance- If the "Check for responsiveness" step fails, jump over other intermediate steps, and go directly for Endotracheal Intubation. Corollary 1: If the patient is still awake and responding, first use a deep sedation. -II- Law of Itensive Care Unit and ALS Ambulance- If the patient opens his eyes responding to verbal stimuli, he is still alive. Corollary 1: Remember, he can leave anytime... My best regards and... have a good beer (a guiness!) for me :) -- Giuseppe Cunsolo - Stud. Medicina e Chirurgia - V.d.S.
